"I'm looking for Oz"

Heyo, everybody! Let's start this review on a positive not because as we continue on it's going to get unpleasant. I received Reactivated around mid-October, the deadline for my review’s posting is November fifth, so tomorrow. You have only been reading my reviews for about a month or so now, as you can probably guess I am very happy with majority of my books. I’ve refrained from writing any bad review but as my mother disclosed to me, “you cannot be a book critic without writing bad reviews.” Please ladies and gents I urge you to be gentle with me as I write my first negative review.

*To Charissa, the author of today’s book, I promise to be honest in my review. I hope that this doesn’t dissuade you, I actually hope it helps you improve! Keeping writing your journey to success :)*

Goodreads' Blurb

“Project Phoenix… Find Oz…”
Those were the last words her brother Jonah said when he died in her arms. Convinced that he was murdered, Navy Intel Officer Allegra Steele learns that “Oz” is her brother’s former Navy SEAL teammate, Jack “Oz” Cullen.
When Allegra asks for Jack’s help, she doesn’t expect the undeniable electricity that sparks between them. And, Jack, still trying to adjust to civilian life, knows he should stay away from the intelligent beauty.
Swept up in adventure and each other, they uncover a sinister evil called Project Phoenix, an experiment that gave each SEAL on Jack's team a super power. When Jack’s ability suddenly resurfaces, he can hear other people’s thoughts—and, Allegra’s steamy internal dialogue makes this super sexy soldier sweat.

I was researching how to write bad reviews in a respectable way and came up with a criticism sandwich. The bread is going to be the beauty of the book and the insides is going to let downs.

Book Review

Bread slice number one! The plot. I thought it was full of ingenuity. Charissa created a military, contemporary romance with sci-fi engineering. It was fun figuring out the puzzles to Project Phoenix. Jack ‘Oz’ was the perfect character to begin the series with, especially when Allegra is the FMC. None of the other guys could have endured Allegra’s stubbornness ;).

Lettuce, Cheese, and Meat! (And a bit of Mayo. Maybe a squirt of mustard). I read Reactivated in Epub format and for those reading it on Kindle or Paperback your experience may be different. For me the words were grouped too close together. It felt kind of smothering or maybe overwhelming when reading it for long periods of time. There were technical aspects that I missed out on like the table of contents and things like that but that was a minor problem.

My biggest pet-peeve was the transitions between the FMC’s and the MMC’s POV’s. The transitions lacked any indication that it would change or that it had changed after the fact. One paragraph you were in Jack’s mind the second you were in Allegra’s. It become even more confusing because Oz is a mind reader! While you read, you are following the storyline, attempting to distinguish whether you are reading as Oz or Allegra, and trying to organize between your main character thoughts along with whoever’s mind Oz is mind reading!

That wasn’t so bad, bread slice number two! It may sound stupid but the page length was good. Just enough for a lazy day read but not enough to be hooked on for the next forty-eight hours. I enjoyed the cat and mouse game between Allegra and Oz whenever he was controlled by the antagonists. It really helped me get through the ending.

*I won’t leave hint, but know that the series continues! At the end Allegra and Oz’s relationship is solidified and we move on to the next SEAL.*
